Bike route Giant Mountains: The Giant mountains - To the Zlate Navrsi

This is the route of high-mountain bikers. A big reward for a big fag. You get yourself and the bike one thousand higher on this bike route. That is the fag. And the reward? A fantastic view over the Giant Mountains if the weather conditions allow.

Route description:

Set out from Jilemnice towards Vitkovice and Misecky. We could follow this street, the valley of the Jizera river is also charming, but there are to many cars here. That´s why we suggest to turn to the left onto a road which leads uphill on a crest towards Jestrabi. There are not so many cars, more sun and nice view-points on this road. From parking place in Roudnice, turn to the right towards Vitkovice. Follow the road to river Jizerka and to the hotel Praha. We have returned onto the valley street which goes from Vitkovice to Misecky. We follow it and go up to Dolni and than to Horni Misecky. From here, "only" a few serpentines are waiting for us, and than we are at Vrbatova bouda (cottage). This is the turning of our cycling tour. The second half of our tour will be much more easier (if you have good breaks!). We return the same way to Horni Misecky and than follow the cycling route No. 12 towards south, through Tridomi and than follow the cycling route No. 11 to the crossroad called Na rovince. From here, follow the cycling route No. 10 to Benecko and now down the hill along the street to Dolni Stepanice and to Jilemnice.

Points of interest:

Benecko

The highest located village in the western Giant Mountains. Close to an outlook-tower Žalý.

Horni Misecky

An important skiing centre situated underneath the ridge of the Giant Mountains and Zlate Navrsi at the altitude of 1100 m.

Jilemnice

A town in the Western lower part of the Giant Mountains, Czech Republic. It was established as a town in the beginning of 14th century. The town belonged to the Castle of Stepanice estate. Jilemnice was burnt by Swedish armies in 1646. A boom of weaving and linen production took place at the end of 18. century. The chateau of Jilemnice was established by an aristocratic family from Ujezdec in 16th century. The chateau underwent a restoration in 1716, and it was transformed into a Pseudo-Renaissance style by a reconstruction in 1892. The one-storey building with three wings and polygonal corner towers is situated in a large park. The building is nowadays a home of the museum of the Krkonoše (with an exhibition on history of skiing in the Krkonoše).
